Band Biographies - In Alphabetical Order

Sometime in 2008 Rob was sent on a quest from the dark lord himself to assemble a clan of mighty musicians (at the time he was beating his skin but realised that his real love was for strumming his instrument).
On his journey he came across King Richie and his mighty weapon, while discovering his own split personality of Donkey Bear (I would explain, but that would take too long and I’m tired of seeing that disgusted face). Back to the mission at hand. With his trusty sidekick Martin slapping his piece around they auditioned some random bird over the phone that turned out to be a filthy pixie chick called Sparky. With Nigel completing this twisted little clan beating his skins hard and fast,
Age of Misrule were conceived in the coldest bungalow in the middle of nowhere. They all share a mutual love of pie and rock.

"We all grew up listening to rock and punk, but I think we secretly had this pop sensibility inside as well. With this band, it's a chance to use all those elements and write the kind of songs that we'd want to hear"
Their catchy, well-crafted songs won them a publishing deal with BMG, leading to the release of their debut single ‘Stagger to my Feet’. The single and accompanying video got the band their first taste of national TV and radio and sets the stage for more releases in 2011. Bandit The PantherBandit The Panther started when Joe had some songs but no band and thought “hey maybe I can pretend I’m Billy Bragg!” He then slowly formed a backing group for live gigs called Bandit the Panther, on the basis that it was a ‘musical collective’ and people could move through the group at will. However, frequent collaborators have been bassists Richard Squibb and Dan Digby, and percussionist Richard Stratton.
Bandit The Panther have recorded and released for free three albums and a collection of ‘extras’ during 2010 and played many gigs across the south coast, including spots at well known venues such as Talking Heads in Southampton, alongside sets at smaller pubs and venues. Their most recent record, ‘An Incendiary bandit Bombshell’ was released in December 2010 and they are touring during February 2011 in support of it.

Belfast-based Before Machines formed in early 2008 and quickly set about earning a reputation for fearsome, energetic live shows around the country. Released in May 2009, the launch of their eponymous EP saw the band play a blistering set to a packed Auntie Annie’s. Their subsequent live shows have only won them more converts along the way, with their combination of angular riffs, powerful bass, inventive drumming and sing-along vocals. The addition of Chris McCorry on guitar and Moog in the summer of 2009 saw the band move in a different direction, thickening the guitar parts and giving singer Andy Melville more space to command the attention of the audience whilst still remaining true to what made the three-piece so vital: killer hooks, unpredictable dynamic shifts and razor-sharp guitar lines. The band entered Start Together studio in early 2010 after a short period of enforced hibernation to fine-tune their sound. The result is their latest release, the double-A side “Hearts/Runaway”. More recently Before Machines have headlined Radar, a premier local music show to a packed Speakeasy bar, Queens University Belfast. In late 2010 they have been testing themselves further a field around Ireland with a view to more shows around the country and touring in the UK. Bands Before Machines have played with: Cymbals Eat Guitars (New York), In Case Of Fire, Panama Kings, Panda Kopanda, Kowalski, Mojo Fury, The Good Fight, More Than Conquerors, Cashier No.9, A Plastic Rose, Ed Zealous.
Andy and Chris' previous bands (The Remains of Youth and Jedi Jane) have played with the likes of Stiff Little Fingers, Oppenheimer, Fighting With Wire, La Quiete (Italy) and An Albatross (Pennsylvania), as well as being supported by recent Northern Irish do-gooders Two Door Cinema Club, General Fiasco and And So I Watch You From Afar.

Below DefectBelow Defect are five talented young men thrashing their way onto the Southampton metal scene in the UK. Their debut album, Eagle Eyed Generation, is due for release in autumn 2011 and promises to deliver their own personal brand of 'thrash metal with bare harmonies' in swathes. As the title track single suggests Below Defect's sound is home to crushing riffs and fiery solos with an added dose of well-crafted melody. As the group gouge out their place in contemporary metal they do so with determination to always play with a quality and passion beyond most others.
"The band offer some impressive fast thrash-paced work reminiscent of Metallica and Slayer with interesting shifts and great atmospheric textures." Tom Willmott - Amped Reviews Dot Net
"Aggression, mechanical and anger, all bought together with a sense of the earths final judgement. Eagle Eyed Generation brings the war and chaos that Metal is known for with the force of a Nuclear warhead. TP Rating - 7/10" Matt Callanan - Turbulence Promotions
Bicycle Thieves were formed in 2004 with the addition of Dr Ian as lead vocalist. Pieter, Breeds and James had been jamming together since 2002 and when Ian turned up for an audition in Breeds' Kitchen (which doubled as our rehearsal room) and belted out a great version of Roxanne (hitting all the high notes without grabbing his testicals), Bicycle Thieves were born.
The following 9 months were spent rehearsing different kinds of material and on March 5th 2005 we played our first gig at Plug n Play in Reading to friends and family. The next 2 years we played various pubs around Berkshire/Hampshire and developed a reputation for technical ability and entertainment. The vision of the band is to play songs that people know and love, but avoid most of the usual covers that every other band plays. We always try to ensure that everyone leaves a Bicycle Thieves Gig hearing songs they know, performed to a high standard. Our setlists are constantly evolving as we discover new bands, songs and styles which suit our audience and our ability. http://bicyclethieves.net/
Black Emerald
Black Emerald Formed in 2006, in secondary school by Chris Davies and Edd Higgs, with the aim of bringing back elements of classic rock that have been lost throughout the years, and combining them with modern sounds and soon became very well known around the local area. Throughout the years 2006 - 09 the band went through a large number of lineup changes, which also took them through a number of sound changes, from blues rock, to a small stage of punk, along to now, in 2010, where with a stable line up, with Chris Davies on drums, Ben Readings on bass, Simon Hall on vocals, Andy Pammenter on Rhythm Guitar and Edd Higgs on Lead Guitar, some groove metal has begun to appear within original classic rock style. With widely varying influences, there is no one fixed genre. From metal to old rock, there is something for everyone. They are now signed to a small independent label, Black Bullet Records, under which they are going to release their first EP titled Shine which will then be followed by the (locally titled), album Cemetery Junction. They have always been known for putting on a fantastic live act, and that is something they will never disappoint on.
Formed in 2005 and born from the ashes of oxford grindcore terrorists 'Faith in Hate' and industrial noise merchants 'Set in Stone', Black Skies Burn deliver an uncompromising mix of modern thrash and metalcore, blending moments of heavy groove, furious thrash riffing and driving blastbeats.
The Black Skies Burn Live Show is one that is not to be missed!! From the get go Black Skies Burn kick off straight into a relentless intense rage of furious guitars, penetrating bass, thundering drums and menacing vocals. With every song just as chaotic and aggressive as the rest, you will find it hard to contain yourself. Black Skies Burn has one goal in mind, to takes no prisoners! Black Skies Burn is ready and willing to unleash a terror upon its victims which has not been seen, nor heard in a long time. Leaving a trail of mass destruction and chaos in its path! It's time to embrace the darkness and let the Black Skies Burn.. We're here to give you a fucking migraine!! >=)
We have shared the stage with a number of well-known UK, US and European bands that include:
- Gojira - Hatesphere - Burning Skies - Shaped By Fate - First Blood - The Set Up - Born From Pain - Dead Beyond Buried
- Shadow Law - Boltdown - Ventflow - Santa Karla - Bossk (RIP) - Buried Beneath (RIP) - From The Carnival Of Horrors (RIP) - Hand Of The Deadra (RIP) www.myspace.com/blackskiesburn

Bombers
Bombers ‘Film Fanatic EP’
Dead London Records / Released on Monday 31 October
“The Birthday Party running riot in Joy Division and Swans’ back garden; at night, whilst it’s a bit chilly, and possibly on bonfire night” Artrocker
“Spirit of Captain Beefheart raised in frenetic and glorious riffing. Out on their own” Louder Than War
Formidable and saturated in swift and relentless hooks Bombers swagger the boundaries between the dark and isolated post punk of Joy Division with the knee-jerk kick of Dead Kennedys. Their frenetic wave of sound bursts with energy which has seen them creeping their way around the country sweeping up audiences in a wave of sweat soaked euphoria. Never putting their heads above the three minute mark it’s the combination of the dynamic interplay, driving rhythms and frenzied vocals made them one of Louder Than War’s top new bands for 2011 as well being picked up by Artrocker magazine at their first London gig. Their abstracted tales of psychodrama and claustrophobic love jostle with recollections of lost evenings in vacant outer ring-road motels.
With a physical release limited at 100 only short sharp copies there will be a time for long attention spans and extended solos, but this isn’t that time. This is the time for twisted and psychotic doom-punk.

"To be honest, we have had a hard time trying to explain exactly what Bruise sounds like. It's a bit like trying to bottle feed a starving tiger, or sticking your finger in the cold tap... there's no way that thing is going to behave. So, here is the official review: "Bruise knocked our Lemony socks off with their crunchy guitars, tasty mixing, inspired arrangements, catchy tunes, inventive harmonies and sheer guts, all rolled into a play-me-again-and-again super snack of a poppy rocky synthy drum-n-bass-founded organic musical tortilla." Or, if your poster is very small: "we loved this, we played this, and we will play it until its plastic melts." Bruise are gigging in and around London, so don't miss the opportunity to see and enjoy one of the best sounding original bands for years." Lemonrock.com

AM I HEARING A TOUCH OF THE BETH ORTONS?" - THE TIMES----------------------BEN VORIG JAAR NAAR ENGELAND GEGAAN ALLEEN OM HEN TE ZIEN-JAAP---------------- Bruise met in Jim’s mostly derelict home in the East End of London, a little bit further east of the fashionable east end. That says more than it might, Bruise are just that bit further east of fashion, Bruise exist where inspiration starts. With two very separate ideas of what was music Isobel and Jim’s taste collided to form progressive folk like it had never been heard before. From a background of folk clubs and festivals, unacompanied singing and opened tuned guitars, Isobel had a catalogue of melodic and lyrically intense songs, Jim brought production sensibilities from early Genesis and pop genius not seen since Cindy Lauper. Their first album was much loved, critically acclaimed by The Times, The Wire and played on BBC6 Music. It opened a door to venues all over the world, from Europe to the US, their live shows gathered a momentum that left audiences slack jawed in amazement. This strong recorded presence and growing reputation as live performers won them repeat appearances at Glastonbury, support slots for cult space-rockers Hawkwind, play on US college radio, positive review after positive review and many delights on their way there. Bruise consists of Isobel Morris and Jim Kimberley, they perform as an acoustic duo, an electric two piece, then with the addition of Bob Kelly on bass they make a three piece. In any guise this band moves people, they move their feet and sometimes they’re moved to tears. Their self assured second album ‘Nobody Else’, underpins the creative impact that this band have got to make. Listen, it’s emo for adults, it’s not ‘pop’ it’s ‘bang’ and though you can’t see the future you can probably hear it… http://www.myspace.com/bruiseuk
Bull in Field are a talented three piece from Reading, joining the mainstream with their outstanding music. The attractive trio insist that they have created a new genre called 'Bollock Rock', a claim backed up by the loud cries of 'bollocks' from their adoring fans.
Formed too long ago to remember, the band have produced a smash hit album entitled 'Bullocks' and a Christmas tune to rival that of Joe McElderry; someone had to do it. With a leather jacket wielding maniac on bass, the posh boy of punk rock on guitar and a saxophonist on drums; what could go wrong? Writing from the heart, about issues that truly matter in modern society, the band have a unique approach to song writing and the music business, with a real 'that'll do' attitude about them.http://www.myspace.com/bullinfield

The first verse of their funky song ‘Pure’ is dead on what Bonn based German rock band Buzz Jump is all about. Pure passionate Rock’n Roll. There is no act, no costumes, no truckloads of gimmicks, it’s just a raw Rock show and it is brilliant! Take the ingredients of a classic rock trio, spice them up with bits of Funk, Punk and even a bit of Reggae, top that with excellent songs and you get the explosive blend of Buzz Jump’s sound. These guys deliver a true Rock show, that consists of their fine original material that is influenced by the likes of Audioslave, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, as well as rock icons AC/DC or Led Zeppelin. They also love to interpret all-time favourites like Talk Talk’s ‘Such a Shame’ or Depeche Mode’s ‘Never Let Me Down Again’ in their own special way and rock out hits of Thin Lizzy, The Cult or even Abba. Buzz Jump on stage are always a lot of fun, because the musicians take themselves with a pinch of salt, and these guys know how bring any club to a boil. So don’t miss them when they come to a club in your town, and have fun, Yeah! http://www.myspace.com/buzzjump
By Definition return with a brand new EP and a fresh glint in their eye. Combining grinding riffs, heavy beats and no-nonsense vocals, they create a sound that’s hard to miss and impossible to forget. Their first demo, the self titled 'By Definition', was described as “Straight ahead, Black Label Society styled, whiskey soaked dirty rock” by Rock Sound magazine and their new EP 'Eyes on Wires' promises to be bigger, badder and dirtier than ever before. Since their inception in the summer of 2007, By Definition have been storming the Brighton music scene with their explosive mix of Southern Rock, early Metal and Punk. Spawned as a side project of the two guitarists, Dan and Rob, with the addition of Si on vocals and Phil on drums, By Definition quickly became its own beast. Combining influences from bands such as Clutch, Therapy?, Corrosion Of Conformity and Helmet, By Definition were ready to take on the world. For most of 2008, By Definition gigged across the South of England, searching for the sound that they could definitively call “theirs”. This path ultimately led them to J, who took up the mantle of bass player. Backed up by an energetic and hard-hitting live show, the result is the new EP: 'Eyes On Wires', which is to be released on 1st February 2010, preceeded by a two track sampler which will be available as a free download or CD from December 2009.

CarmentaFirst founded in Poland when Zibi and Tom started playing in bands together; once they were in the UK they set out to form CARMENTA. The rest of the line is formed from Colin (Bass), Tonka (Drums) and Pringle (Vocals). We have recorded our 4 track demo which you can listen to here and we are recording a further 5 tracks during May 2010. We are trying to play as many live shows as possible around the country so everyone can get a taste of Carmenta live and the passion that comes with it. Reviews: Surface unsigned fest round one, by David Couchman: Like an underground version of Limp Bizkit, if you can imagine such a thing; the way you wanted them to go after listening to the first album, but never mind them now, we have Carmenta who are much more important. They have a heavy influence that is enforced by the metal inspired riffs, the drums are of classic rock origin that make their presence by jamming along to every flicker or whisper of sound; my vocal specialist told me that ‘the control on his (Lead Singer, Pringle) higher register is perfect’, pretty handy for those powerful rock tracks that really test the band, and every member. Surface unsigned fest semi final. Think the Deftones, or Tool, a brand of alternative metal that depends a bit more upon the melodies to carry off the feelings of the songs than sheer force and volume. Carmenta used the delay on the vocals to create this echoing sound that really added an atmosphere to the proceedings. The two guitarists sang backing vocals and performed duties of rhythm guitar, beefing out the sound with a mixture of singing and screaming (in a masculine and guttural type way). A good set that proved there is more than one way to skin a cat. http://www.myspace.com/bandcarmenta

US based singer CoConi has catapulted into the UK with her catchy, highly addictive debut single ‘‘Get Your Light Up’’ and taken from her album entitled ‘‘Venusian Butterfly’’ released on CoConi Music. ‘‘Get Your Light Up’’ has already achieved critical acclaim from musical accolades such as Dermot O’Leary at BBC Radio 2 and Gary Crowley at BBC London, as well as reaching number one on the global “Pod Music Countdown”, a highly influential music podcast reaching audiences of over 200,000 worldwide.
“Venusian Butterfly” is a collection of twelve original compositions, co-written with Ed Gilmour (formerly of "The Wishplants"), that depicts messages of optimism and a desire for a brighter future. Produced and mixed by Simon Efemey (of Orson, Wildhearts and Wonderstuff fame), buoyant tracks such as ‘‘Say It Again’’ and ‘‘Dynamite’’ contrast with darker songs of past love losses and heartache including “Taking The Blame” and ‘‘Sarah’’. Having been compared musically to the quirky energy of Kate Bush meets the rockier Evanescence with a pinch of Bjork in the vocals, it is no wonder CoConi has captured large audiences whilst performing alongside the likes of Natasha Bedingfield, PM Dawn and the legendary James Taylor Quartet, wowing audiences to her highly seductive tunes bursting with power.
"CodeJak are a band in which Alternative Vision will be watching closely throughout 2010 as they are simply outstanding and one of the best new rock bands that England has to offer!"
Band of the month - Alternative Vision - January 2010 "Hell Yeah is a sexy sweet track which will get any stiff up and rocking along! The band then show more of there talent on the moving and emo song called, ‘Little Boy’, a great success so buy it now! 8/10"
Jay James - Rock Industry - January 2010 "This record might make D.H. Lawrence suddenly decide to give up writing and go skipping off into the fields to pick flowers! Bang up job guys. 8.2/10"
Mike Elliot - Komodo Rock - January 2010 "certainly has that kick ass quality about it. I can see this band going somewhere and doubt it will be the last I hear of them."
Pete Woods - Metal Team uk - January 2010 "A hard driving and pulsating blast of alternative rock! CodeJAK maintain the quality control with the muscular dirge of "Pull Out Your Knife" that makes use of an effective hook and a vocal delivery that spits out rage and frustration." Dean Pedley - Sea of Tranquility - January 2010 "I like this, After all, what could be better than three minutes of galloping guitar riffs, topped off with regular chants of "Hell, Yeah!"? Not much, I can tell you. The visceral, brooding 'Pull Out Your Knife' is equally, if differently awesome. Mainman Dan Turner certainly knows how to write a good tune, and they could be one of the beat combos to watch out for in 2010" Zeitgeist - January 2010 "Opening track ‘Hell Yeah’ is already lined up to be the rock anthem of 2010 in my opinion and that is a big statement considering that 2010 is barely days old."

Cremyll RoadCremyll Road come from Yateley and are all good friends. We didn't really decide to make a band it just happened after a Sunday jam session. Jack Lloyd has been writing songs for a long time and playing the guitar. AJ has been MC'ing and writing casually since 16 mainly battling on street corners and repping his GSG crew. Graeme Clark has been playing the guitar for 10 years he is self taught and comes up with all the riffs for the band. Greg Sutton has a musical background and has just picked up the bass. Joe Stevens is an outrageous drummer and a very welcome new addition to CR family. He also owns a tambourine. Our style varies from acoustic indie to grime. We are looking to gig as much as possible locally and expand our fan base.

Crooked Mountain Crooked Sea
"A near perfect blast of post-hardcore that marks Crooked Mountain, Crooked Sea out as a band to keep tabs on." MusicFansMic
"It’s always good to hear a band take a potentially stale genre of post-hardcore, and make it sound new and exciting again; recommended." Ken Eakins, Right Where You Are Sitting Now
"At the heart of their music is a raw-yet-fuzzy post-hardcore sound, but Crooked Mountain, Crooked Sea take the staple of the genre and inject a new dimension into it. Not afraid to reign it back a little and explore a more delicate side to their sound, the band bring an ambitious edge to their compositions." 8/10 One Beat
"Jaunty, choppy post-rock that probably takes influence from the early Deep Elm bands, possibly some Dischord stuff and maybe even Joy Division... The ideas are executed well and the vocals are tremendous throughout. Ones to watch, for sure." Punktastic.com
"...a raw, atonal blast of alt-rock that's more refreshing than a stroll along Brighton pier in the middle of a British winter... the EP is astonishingly mature and announces Crooked Mountain, Crooked Sea as a band to follow." The Devil Has the Best Tuna Blog
Cryogenica "Cryogenica have created an album that defies definition".
"In re-animation their influences combine to make a truly unique sound".
From Sphere Magazine, July 2010:
"Its "variation and fluidity make their album stand out." From Nocturnal Magazine, 2010:
"Cryogenica perfectly demonstrate their multi-faceted skill and ability to keep things new and fresh." "Re-animation is the product of a group in possession of both a well-determined vision and a vein of rare and precious talent. It is one hell of a calling card." http://www.myspace.com/cryogenicamusic

Danny Bash is a singer/songwriter and producer from Newbury, Berkshire. A multi-instrumentalist who founded Eternal Sunshines in 2005, and then penned his solo album, 'House Of Dis_olving Likeness' after the bands untimely demise in 2008. Unique vocals, tone and honest melodic songs are his strong point. A struggle between light and darkness is apparent in alot of his work, and could be described as melancholy happy music.
The live 'One Man Band' show is back to basic's, simple songs played acoustically on guitar or piano, as they were written. Combined with some of his favourite covers from Radiohead, to The Beatles and Robbie Williams. Current projects include two albums called The Fireball & The Imposter. While Desert Storm can be granite heavy and relentless as a steamroller with faulty brake pads, they paint from a pleasingly mixed palette of textures, tempering those hoary, hairy onslaughts with contemplative ambience and tabla (as on the track ‘Desert Storm’) and even some spirited, soulful female backing vocals, as on ‘Cosmic Drips’. The result is a remarkably fresh take on music that’s as old as the hills, and as heavy as them too. IAN CHESTERTON- Nightshift magazine
No such problems with Desert Storm, as they fill the stage with attitude - attitude and fucking great riffs. This is consummate stoner rock, and everything Desert Storm do tonight is locked into a groove so deep it probably has no bottom. Iommi-strength riffs stomp all over the audience as a nod-fest slowly evolves into a moshpit. ‘Cosmic Drips’ oozes class and might well be one of the finest songs written by an Oxford band in the last few years. If there’s a better metal band in Oxford at the moment, then we haven’t heard them! SAM SHEPHERD- Nightshift magazine
NIGHTSHIFT FORUM : 'Rifftastic Metallers Desert Storm' 'and the riff brilliant Desert storm there album is one of the best driving in yer car with the window down, sun out, head nodding slice of rock ever.' JOHNNY MOTO
DEVOLUTION MAGAZINE REVIEW: . "An eight track cd that features some quality tunes despite the fact that the five piece band only formed in 2008. Straight off the bat this shows commitment and persistence in wanting to get their talents heard. DS are a Southern metal act from Oxford who are clearly influenced by the styles of Monster Magnet and Down. Great guitar and bass work is complimented by a ballsy no holes barred whisky drenched vocal range from Matt Ryan who has obviously been influenced by Phil Anselmo - a blatant comparison maybe but then if we are going to compare stoner southern metal who better to compare to? A fantastic effort and debut from a fine Oxford based band whose future doesn't look too hazy!" NICKIE
Surface unsigned festival 1st round review @the flapper birmingham: Desert Storm Next up was Oxford based five-piece Desert Storm. A hard and heavy mix of Classic-Rock and Metal, it’s rooted in the timeless Rock of the past yet made their own and brought crashing up to date by some well-written, distinctive material. Winding solos, driving riffs, heavy beats and Matt’s deep growl create a noise that demands your attention and which made for an impressive performance at The Flapper. http://www.myspace.com/experiencethestorm
Formed 5 years ago and have earnt their reputation as one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the Swindon area through relentless gigging, energetic shows and great sounds. Performing on stage with the likes of Young Guns and The Rileys, Disclosure have played at many of the biggest and most respected venues and festivals in and around Oxfordshire. Disclosure are a 5-piece Powerpop band with a great full sound and fantastic female vocalist. This has been a big year for the band, with lots of perfomances and the addition of new band members Andy Mitchell 'Vocalist' and Ash Evans on 'Bass' who have added many new ideas into the band. Disclosure have a great future in store for them.http://www.myspace.com/disclosure05
Divine Chaos are a five piece metal band from the south east, intent on creating better music and a more intense live show than the sort of act people have become used to in recent years.
Echoed Silence are competing in the Surface Unsigned Festival this year. Tight and talented bands from across the UK are set to meet at various stages of this journey, to battle it out for that final showdown at the Thekla in Bristol. Each band has a unique text number , each text vote will score the band a point, each audience vote at a show will score 5 points, musician votes score 20 and the industry scores 30. As you can plainly see, it's people power here that will help thrust the bands onto those latter stages of the competition. This is where i am asking for your help. If you have a spare moment and a spare quid, please text WEST 4047 to 64343 and get our score rolling! Remember to put a space between WEST and 4047 in order to qualify the vote. This is the most important step we have ever taken as a band since recording our demo, and we want to give it our all, but we cannot do it alone. Thank you! Keep those heads banging and those toes tappin'! http://www.myspace.com/echoedsilenceuk
Ed AldredEd Aldred has been singing and writing songs with various bands in the Berkshire area since 2001 and has established a broad catalogue of songs. He has been in the studio over the past few months and is hoping to release a solo acoustic album sometime next year which will be accompanied with some gigs in the Berkshire region. Another project called Onion features a heavier style of music with Tom Cox playing drums and Jamie Pearson on Bass.http://www.myspace.com/edaldred
Eddie Chilvers
Eddie started playing music as soon as he could reach the piano keys and simply didn't stop! Taught by his mother, concert pianist Pamela Chilvers, Eddie learned fairly early on that he had a strong talent for improvisation and any piece or style he learned he could quickly add to the mix and move seamlessly from style to style. Passion for the piano lead him to develop a large classical repertoire from Bach to Wagner, as well as jazz, funk and and boogie woogie, picking up lots of pop classics along the way.
He played trumpet in the National Children's Orchestra at nine, and got his first professional gig as resident pianist in the Ramada Hotel at just eleven years old. He began teaching piano at 14, and formed his first rock band at 15. Throughout his teenage years he proceeded to learn guitar, bass guitar, saxophone and drums, and has played in countless rock and jazz bands, usually fronting on guitar / piano and vocals. From 2007-2009 he played keys for Elvis tribute band 'Taking Care of Elvis,' fronted by the 'Image of the King' world title holder, Ben Portsmouth. In the last couple of years he has cut back on external commitments to focus on his own piano compositions and concerts, but is still in high demand as a party performer and plays all kinds of functions and festivals (including Shambala and Bestival). There's no style he can't play, his specialty is improvising and extemporising well known tunes from Eminem to Beethoven in a fantastic whirlwind of fun that gets everybody dancing on the tables and singing along.
Reading singer-songwriter Ed Lofstedt started trading under his own name in 2009. Since then he’s become an established player on the Berkshire circuit; a draw for both the floppy-haired indie trailblazers and chin-stroking folk druids. www.myspace.com/edlofstedt
Ed released his first EP ‘force for whatever’ in March 2010, recorded in a converted lounge with the help of pal and local up-and-comer Steviant. After weeks locked in their rock playpen the pair have delivered 5 tracks and 17 minutes of glossy folk-pop; an attempt to put the bedroom strummer cliché finally to rest.
Ed’s Swedish/Brit roots jumble his influences. Nods to Elbow, Tom McRae and Loney, Dear inform his writing but he’s not afraid to tip his hat to more *emo* troubadours from across the pond. It’s “subversive melodic chillcore”, so he says.
Recently Ed’s played his first BBC Introducing slot, appeared on Club Velocity’s radar, and been showcased for BBC Radio Berkshire’s ‘The Session’. As festival season looms he’ll roll out across the home counties for a run of indie festival shows, including Reading’s DoubleDotDash?! in July.
“Came out of nowhere. If Ben Marwood is God, Ed Lofstedt is his son.” - Club Velocity

Enola hope to be one of the most exciting bands in and around Reading. Using their music to get people dancing and create memorable live performances. It all started when Oliver (Lead Guitar) jammed some idea's with Antosh Wojcik (Lead Drums) and instantly knew they had to create a new band. Next to join was Rob Jacques (Lead Bass) and this created an incredible rhythm section, which is the main driving force of the material written. During the first practice there was instant chemistry between the trio. They soon got some more material together and developed a solid sound, after doing this the trio knew they had to find a singer. This obstacle became a challenge and this developed into a terribly hard job. The first singer was a good lad and had a good voice, but unfortunately couldn't deliver the power needed to stand his ground against the blistering guitar, bass and drums. He was soon dropped on mutual terms. It was then apparent the trio needed someone with big enough bollocks to slot in place with the rest of the band..........In came Jack Rundell. From the moment Jack started singing it seemed he was singing to save his life, he put everything into the songs and they knew they had found a singer that could deliver the power needed to front the band. Welcome Enola.http://www.myspace.com/enola

Everyone Needs a Nemesis
We are Everyone Needs A Nemesis, a four piece alternative rock band from Reading, Berkshire. what follows is how the four individuals came together to share a love for all things music; playing, recording, listening et al. Sam Davey (vocals, guitar) used to play in a local grunge band with Simon Woodcock (bass, vocals) before parting ways with the, as is often the case, erratic drummer. After the split long time friend Chris Price (guitar, vocals) started jamming and honing our sound into a contemporary alt rock style. Thus began the epic search for a suitable drummer and after a few months and a few emptied drum stools we hit the proverbial pot of gold in the shape of Simon Williams (drums, arsing about).
With the line up that we knew we wanted in place we began a solid six month period of song writing until we were in the possession of a set to be proud of. At the same time as doing the first few gigs as Everyone Needs A Nemesis and building our live sound and show we put ourselves into the very capable hands of a certain Jordan Fish at Studio 91 in Newbury to record our first EP, 'Nothing comes to those who wait'. This helped catapult us to the next level of shows with appearances on the X-fest Berkshire bill, The Nags head in High Wycombe and then our first London show, headlining the Purple Turtle in Camden. Following these, as we see them, accolades we began another staunch period of song writing with which to see off the remainder of 2009. New Year and some new plans as we decided to head straight back into Studio 91 to record our second EP titled 'Burn the evidence'. We found this to be a more cohesive example of our songwriting compared to our earlier material and a nice progression from the first record. From this point onwards we found our live shows progressing in many aspects such as audience participation and involvement. We also felt that our set is as strong as it has ever been. As if by the sheer presence of coincidence our hard work seemed to gain merit as we were offered our highest profile gig to date supporting Smalltown America records up and comers Let Our Enemies Beware and Lefaro. Nevermore has our appetite for success and acclaim from the industry, peers and fans alike been so at the forefront of our collective conscious, therefore we are currently taking the 'Biffy' approach and working hard to get our fan base around Berkshire solid and then spread our wings to further flung climbs. To aid us in this we have completely self funded batches of t-shirts, had our cd artwork designed and then consequently printed along with flyers and business cards, even managed to grab ourselves some complimentary photos. We are furthermore going to be raising our profile with a series of street gigs in aid of 'busking for cancer', as we all believe in said charity and think that it is a nice way to raise money combining it with us getting to play loads around our area.
So this brings us neatly to our plans for the rest of 2010, which hopefully stand out as a band with a strong will to not only persist but to ultimately succeed in making this year our year to remember. All four of us believe vehemently in what we do and are as such positive that if given opportunities to take steps up the music ladder we will shine in any task laid before us regardless of how difficult said task may appear at face value. Thank you for taking the time to read our biography and I hope it gives you a base idea of our ambitions and desires as musicians and as such we look forward to hearing any feedback you could offer us or better still opportunities.http://everyoneneedsanemesis.com or http://myspace.com/everyoneneedsanemesis

Mixing Rhythmn with Melody and Techicalilty, Fallen Skies use a fusion of Low Tuned Extended Instruments ( 8 stringed guitars and five/six string basses) with heavily slapped bass, Polyrhythmic Drums and blast beats, displacement, modulation and good ol’ fashioned grooves to create a new experimental sound.Inspired and Influences by bands such as Meshuggah, Sikth, Periphery, Tesseract, Lamb of God, Fear Factory, The Arusha Accord and The Dillinger Escape PLAN – only naming a few, Fallen Skies hope to follow their path to success.
Fear No Fish formed in the spring of 2002 with one undivided goal, to bring the roots of old school rock into the modern day, without compromising their sound.
Fear No Fish are a Power Trio from Surrey. Brothers (twins actually) Mike and Chris Ransome have been rocking the UK with their intertwining and powerful vocal melodies and their fluid guitar and bass playing for years. With many a performance up and down the country, to crowds big and small, these guys take no prisoners. With “skin beater” Rob Walker joining them in late 2008, the trio are now ready to rock you like no one has ever before. You won't hear them scream. You won't hear them shout. But it's going to get damn Messy.
– There's always a bigger fish, except in this case. Their great barrier riffs ripped my face off, and then some. Brilliantly crafted songs that deserve to be heard. Not to be missed. Awesome. Guy Davis (Reuben, Freeze the Atlantic).
– Nu-skool rock with old skool roots. Either way, they kick so much arse, it doesn’t really matter. (Dan Rhodes of heavy metal outfit, Lucid) – Face melting riffs, complex, funky bass lines and a drummer who is most likely a robot sent from the future to rid the world of sloppy tempos and boring beats. That is Fear No Fish. (Will Coeli of London rockers The Lights/Regina Coeli)

Gentlemen of Distorted Sound Back in the day a classic rock band was judged on good songs, good musicianship, good showmanship and a willingness to try new ideas – in other words to not be too predictable! It was these core values that brought original band members Gareth Nugent (vocals), Mako (guitar), Lawrence Santi (bass) and Russell Gilbrook (drums) together to form Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound in 2006. With influences ranging from 70’s classic rock to the 90’s grunge explosion the band set about honing their sound and writing songs. Over the following months the band, based in the home counties of Southern England, took shape around their powerhouse rhythm section who, despite their very different musical influences were able to blend together and create a huge grooving sound. Add to this Mako’s subtle guitar melodies and searing riffs, delivered in his fluid, almost languid style and Gareth’s supersonic vocals and the sound they were striving for was complete. The intensity of rehearsals and songwriting gave way to playing live as the band took their distinctive brand of “groove-laden hard rock” out on the road. Playing gigs and festivals throughout the UK, France and Scandinavia they built a cult following, impressing rock fans everywhere with their individual style and memorable shows. Along the way drummer Russell Gilbrook was replaced by Richard Fordham. Fuelled by the momentum from the road and armed with a batch of dynamic “road tested” songs the band hit the studio and recorded material for their debut release. 5 of these songs have recently been remixed by Mark Williams (Biffy Clyro, Oceansize, Enter Shikari) and will see the light of day on an EP to be released in the UK in early 2010. http://www.myspace.com/gentlemenofdistortedsound

Goodnight GravityWe are a 4 piece rock band based in South London and play infectious, emotional and epic music. We take influences from many avenues, from the raw power of Foo Fighters and Alter Bridge, to the strong melodic and ambient influences of 30 Seconds to Mars and U2. After kicking off our live performances at Guilfest 2009, we have been playing shows across the UK ever since. Our live performances and energy is second to none, and we’ll always put on a hell of a show. We are proud of our music and all we want is for people to hear it. www.myspace.com/goodnightgravity_
Goodnight SirenThe story of Goodnight Siren began with Caroline Ranson and Tom Hill, singer/lyricist and guitarist/songwriter respectively. The formation of the band followed Tom’s discovery his friend Caroline could sing. The two began to cover songs, most notably Biffy Clyro’s ‘Machines’, which still remains in the set list today. Not long after Caroline and Tom began writing their own songs, they began to play at local venues such as Guildford’s Railway Inn and the Talking Heads in Southampton. Inevitably, Goodnight Siren became a four piece outfit. This began with bassist Jack McCarthy, a good friend of Caroline’s. However, the band remained as an acoustic act until the fourth addition to the family. Drummer David Duncan’s inception finalized Goodnight Siren’s line-up. A band in it’s infancy, Goodnight Siren’s sound continues to evolve. Each member’s influence and distinctive sound culminates in something fresh. Each song develops the band’s arsenal of tunes, giving live sets variety. While the band savours every gig, the decision was made to record their first EP. The band will be recording in the Easter holiday and hope to release the EP soon afterward. Until then the sound will expand, the band will mature and gigs will be appreciated! Goodwin Sands
“A pleasant and easy-listening sound, nicely paving the way to foreign shores” - New Folk Sounds “A promising indie folk band” – 3 voor 12 Utrecht
Goodwin Sands is an indie/folk band from Utrecht in the Netherlands. Blending various acoustic instruments and diverse musical styles, they create their own versatile and discreet sound. At the end of 2009 the band released their first E.P. entitled "Builders & Artists", which enabled the band to play countless shows within the Netherlands and paved the way for three short visits to foreign shores. During the early months of 2010 the band began to experiment with more instruments and ideas, which in turn led to the recording of a second E.P. "Time Well Spent" in Antwerpen. The recordings were documented in both MP3 and video format and released as a video-E.P. on the band's website. The addition of a 1970's campervan has helped the band reach pastures new in the last months, including a short tour through Belgium and Germany. This very campervan will join the band in the summer months in the United Kingdom and Ireland.. For more information, new songs, free downloads, and videos please visit www.goodwinsands.nl

If you are looking for an energetic soul band that are guaranteed to get the audience up and dancing then Hidden Agenda are the band for you.... this band will “make it a night to remember” for all the right reasons.Led by two powerful female vocalists and backed by five top musicians with many years of experience the band plays a blend of classic soul, disco and Motown hits to produce a fast moving show that works well at both small venues and larger functions.
Higher Love are: Mark D. Vocal, Drums, Ichi-Guitar, Ajit-Bass. Influences: Joy Division, Queen, Depeche Mode, The Doors, U2, The Cure, Nirvana, Killing Joke, Venus Fly Trap.
"Higher Love uses the ultimate goth formula – dramatic, gloomy, spooky, at times theatrical (there’s even a twist at the end of the set), definitely very Cure-ish, very slowed down Bauhaus." (Source-UK Events)
"Never judge a book by its cover. So it's no surprise that Higher Love, a less than sounding "cool" band, are technically gifted and great song writers... " (Source- SurfaceUnsigned) "a very very dark version of Joy Division…Or an obscurantist Depeche Mode or maybe even the sonic realization of Bono's suicide attempt!… lyrics concerning The Apocalypse, and bloody hell, it actually sounds like it! Cool!!…" (Source-Bugbear Bookings)
We are a 3-piece cold-rock band based in London. The name of the band has been taken from Depeche Mode's song. The music we play can be described as a mixture of classic bands such as Queen and The Doors and 80s rock/new wave music inspirations such as U2, Depeche Mode and The Cure. The most important features in our band are the strong rhythm section, melodically or harmonically layered guitar/ keyboard and even bass parts and powerful vocals in our songs. We have played almost 80 gigs in London and Europe. In 2004, we recorded EP-'The Further From You The Less To Speak' which contains songs like onirical ballad 'Promise' and alternative sing along like 'Forget The World'. In 2008, we recorded another EP called ironically 'Folk Songs'. Currently, we are in the process of writing more intense and darker material. On our new EP 'Ring of Fire’, you can find our version of Johnny Cash’s classic 'Ring of Fire'. We have been featured on radio stations in Scotland, England, Macedonia, Poland, Northern Ireland and US. In July 2009 we have been chosen to take a part in special EMI/Roundhouse studios project called 30/30.www.myspace.com/higherlove www.youtube.com/higherloveband

Hoopy FroodMusically, Frood is the result of a range of influences. The makers struggle to decide on the style and the genre it fits into but little time is spent debating this largely irrelevant question. We simply serve the music and it makes itself, so we can only quote a few critics opinions, such as "Floyd crossed with Sphongle", "kind of like trippy folk music", "a unique multidimensional blend of psychedelic-folk and groovy-electro" and our favourite quote "we suspect the work of hippies".
The original ideas and concepts start with Rich (bass) and Steve (guitar/afri-can) who have been working on Floyd/Zep style projects since 2001 before discovering the versatilities of electronic recording and its masters such as Ott and Shpongle.
Deep and mystical ideas provide the theme then, once the story has been set, it is unleashed upon fellow Froodsters – Chris (vox, guitar), Myshell (vox/percussion) and Ruari (percussion, turntables) who help to give it life. Our first offering, ’Psychonaut’, was released in 2004 with the help of our friends at Amboworld and it has sold, albeit in a modest capacity, all over our fragile earth. Notable performances to date have been supporting Ozric Tentacles in Brighton in March 2005 (see a video and pictures here) and the Synergy Project at London's SeOne club, among other memorable occasions particularly in the summer of 2005. So, it’s taken forever it seems but at last Frood's second album is complete and ready for release. It was recorded in a make-do studio in Berkshire throughout 2007. Having thought it was about ready for release in Feb 2008 we sent it to the band's favourite producer, Ott (ottsonic.com). We didn’t expect a response (an opinion at best) but a very complimentary email was received that culminated in a commission to remix and help produce the work.
...and then the sun came out! Ott took the pieces, pulled them apart and re-created the tracks to sound, well you’ll hear for yourselves. He managed to squeeze 110% more energy, crispness and depth into the mixes while retaining the artists original tunes, vibe and meaning. Then he took the individual tracks and built the album, again managing to portray the mood of the piece better than we ever could. The word “genius” comes to mind, easily. When receiving a disc in the post that sounds like this, after all of the time and effort invested, you don’t want to then scrimp and save at the final hurdle. Ott was flown over from Spain, we hired him a car and he then spent a day at The Soundmasters, London to sit in on a mastering session by Kevin Metcalfe. We could list those Kevin has worked for but its far easier to say “everyone you’ve heard of”. Just when we thought the mix couldn’t get any better... www.hoopyfrood.co.uk
Horse Rock
Horse
Rock is an exhilarating ride with some of Berkshire's wildest
stallions. Formed in a stable somewhere between Reading and Sunbury in
the summer of 2011, Horse Rock combine original surf instrumentals,
thought-provoking equestrian themes and classic indie covers such as
'Wasted Time' by Kings of Leon, 'Gamma Ray' by Beck and 'Psycho Killer'
by Talking Heads. Featuring the galloping drumming skills of Justjin
'Beiber' Ljeisk , the cantering bass of bouncy Paul 'Bulging' Bulgaria
and the world's first and only master of equine-guitar-playing Delmo
Mondeo-Monte IV (BA).
Hugh Turner started playing guitar at the age of 11 and by 13 he was playing with his brother's blues band in pubs and clubs around his native town, Reading. At 16 he had already started teaching and had discovered jazz, first studying under Cedric West, the acclaimed Burmese jazz guitarist, and later John Ethridge and Dave Cliff, Britain's finest bebop guitar player. Graduating in jazz rock and classical guitar from North London University at the age of 19, Hugh played in all the London and South-East's jazz clubs with his already formed jazz trio.
During the next few years he continued with his jazz performances but also concentrated on composition. Pop session work, touring and many dance-music recording sessions kept him off the streets. In 1995 Hugh co-founded 'Jazz upstairs', a club showcasing the best of British Jazz. Alan Barnes, John Gee, Jay Denson, Theo Travis and Dave Cliff all visited the club with the great house rhythm section of Andy Crowdy (acoustic bass) and Simon Price (drums). Around this time he formed Funk Assembly and started the JW's residency, featuring among others, Brandon Allen (alto), Dennis Rollins (trombone) Brian Edwards (alto) and Andy Gangadeen (drums). www.hughturner.co.uk

English born to Jamaican parents, Jacquoda is a mixture of Cherokee Indian with a Chinese bloodline. So exotic are her looks it's no surprise that she has a variety of tastes when it comes to her musical influences. 'My own music takes on a soulful, acoustic jazz feel. I listen to all kinds of music and I mean everything! The world is full of such variety, why not explore them all?...' I have come a long way in expression, since first putting pen to paper at the tender age of 11. My confidence took a boost after being chosen as runner-up in a song writing competition in 1988, which was judged by the band 'Wet Wet Wet' since then I have never looked back. My ambitions are to become a serious, successful singer/songwriter and to work with many artists and writers; I have a great deal of respect for artists who write their own material. Currently working with LA/Holland producers 'Beat Royalty' and Indiana Saxophonist 'Danny Lerman'. The 'New Radicals' sang...you only 'Get What You Give!' and I’ve certainly got the music in me!... Jam PieHammond Organ-obsessed part time jazz dabbler with a background including playing the harpsichord in chamber orchestras, classical piano and clavichord. Still trying to figure our how to play jazz (the day job gets in the way a little!). A few years ago I spent a period playing funk as the keyboard player in the band 'Funk Said Sophie', which had a core of keys, guitar, bass, drums and horn, plus various other musicians who came and went. One of the highlights was going into the studio and recording 14 live tracks in 2 days (we didn't realise it was more usual to spend a whole day on 1 track!). One of the tunes we played is included on this page: Chocolate Salty Balls - a cover of the Isaac Hayes classic.
These days I have moved away from the multiple keyboard setup towards something a lot simpler, and spend nearly all my time playing the Hammond Organ (when I'm not out rock climbing!). We have recently started up a new project, a Hammond trio made up of the drummer, guitarist and keyboard player from Funk Said Sophie. Most of the music we are playing we have learnt specifically for the new band, since wild pitch-bending disco synths don't really fit in any more! We have named the new band 'Jam Pie' due to our fondness for eating pies before our regular jam sessions (from probably the best pie shop in the world, Sweeney & Todd, in Castle St, Reading). We have recently started gigging again with a series of dates at one of our favourite pubs, The Retreat, in St Johns Street, Reading. We are always on the lookout for new venues to play at. I've been recording the gigs, and I've saved a few of them to this page, in case anyone is interested. The gig tracks are all covers, as follows: Green Onions (Booker T & the MGs) Hang 'em High! (Booker T & the MGs). Back at the Chicken Shack (Jimmy Smith). Song for My Father (Horace Silver). The Natural Thing (Brother Jack McDuff). Misty (Errol Garner). The Vibrator (Brother Jack McDuff). Tarantella (Traditional).

Jay Lang & The Devil's DueJay Lang, a Mississippi Delta boy, has been playing Mississippi Roots music for 15 years now with various bands and line-ups. His music experience started in Greenville, MS sitting in with various local musicians like Willie Foster, John Horton, T-Model Ford, and Eddie Cusic who would all tell him, "you ain't no good, but yoou have a good ear and you don't mess us up. Come back next week." After three years of woodshedding and bartending in the Delta he moved to Oxford, MS where he formed his first band, Three Legged Dog which featured traditional, old-school country blues played at break neck speed with a full four piece band.
After touring the southeast and living in many different places Jay ended up back in Oxfrod, Ms ready to start fresh with a new band and a new sound, Jay Lang and the Devil's Due. The formula is simple: electric slide guitar with a heavy backbeat and super-bad guitar leads. Today the band line up consists of Austin Marshall, former drummer of Shady Deal and currently drummer for Jimbo Mathus and the Tri-State Coalition, Nate Robbins, bass player of Rocket 88, and Will Freeman, former frontman of the band Gunboat.
"This is the band I've always wanted," Jay says. "These guys are best group of musicians I've ever had the pleasure of playing with. We all get along and we're all so easy going that there is never a conflict of egos or a clashing of musical styles. I bring a song I've written to the table and fifteen minutes later they're off and runnin'! The great thing is that we all love Blues and have a strong background in it, but we all listen to other genres and have our own take on different music that gets thrown on the table!"
Jay Lang and the Devil's Due have just finished their first self-titled album available for download on all major online music stores. The music is simple: Rockin' Blues. "The songs vary from some very traditional based southern music to just straight up rock n' roll," according to Jay. "I know that description really covers alot of different things, but there is a cohesevness that remains throughout the entire album which I found to bee really cool. Walkin into the studio I was worried about all the songs meshing together as a whole. But when everything was said and done, we ended up with an album with nine songs that even though in my head they were very different, it really is a terrrific representation of what we do and there is a consistant sound. I don't think any of us knew what we really did until it was done!" Jay Lang and the Devil's Due continue to burn up the Oxford music scene as well as touring the southeast. If you need a party, call these guys. They never disappoint. http://jaylangmusic.com/

JB3 After 2 years of playing to not much avail, Singer/guitarist James Bennett and Bassist Andy Blowers were getting a bit down hearted at their current state of affairs. Feeling as though the spark was yet to ignite within the band and that they knew the right drummer was out there for them, they patiently plodded along on the circuit until one wednesday evening in Bishops Stortford. The local blues club was running their 'Unbands' night, and the current line up of JB3 with their stand in drummer was booked to play. A well received set, James and Andy went outside of the main room to the stairs to socialise. A drummer named Charlie Caine approached the two members and congratulated them on a good set. The two musicians got talking and asked Charlie to come and jam at a rehearsal session to try out for the band full time.
Months passed and James and Andy had heard nothing from the drummer. After beginning to lose hope, a chance message came through that Charlie was available and was interested in trying out with the band! The three met up at a local studio and ran through the tracks. It was instant! Both James and Andy knew that this was the missing link to JB3. The spark that was to ignite the flame! The next step was recording! But JB3 didn't want to just be shoved in a room and computerised! So James did a bit of research and found an analogue based studio in Bow, East London. It was perfect! All vintage recording equipment, Gizzard recording studios was booked and JB3 were ready! 4 days and 11 Songs later, JB3 had laid down their album onto Tape! JB3 is as much about the music as it is the lyrical content, they love to play live and feel most comfortable on stage! Described as the modern Jimi Hendrix Experience and a modern take on bands such as Cream, Led Zeppelin and Free, If you get a chance to see them, then DON'T miss out! It will be a gig you won't forget! http://www.myspace.com/particlesofme
is a Singer/Songwriter from Reading, Berkshire. She started working on her debut album “Absence of an Ending” with Songwriter/Producer Ian Mathias – Baker in 2005 and in June 2008 it was released by Satellite - 9 Records on iTunes & Amazon. The album succeeds in capturing her private angst in a series of songs that are a fusion of guitar driven rock and folksy ballads. Whatever mood she's in, the results are all underpinned by an unerring musicality, and her uniquely striking turns of phrase. Since October 2008 Jemma has been collaborating with songwriter/guitarist Nick Bates to write new material to perform. Her EP "Out of Reach" will be available at gigs in September 2009. As one fan recently put it "To enjoy such quality in a local pub is surely not a frequent event. It's not easy to summarise, but there's something in her songs and voice that reminds me of Jewel, Anouk and Emiliana Torrini" www.myspace.com/jemmawillard

'Jessica is a solo covers singer based in Wokingham, with a high energy soulful collection, as well as some subtle, gentle material. Something to suit everyone' My parents say I sang before I could talk, so It really went from there, singing in the usual school events and productions, but I've only recently began to pursue this passion. I began on a serious level by fronting a covers band, 'Jess and the babe magnets' and since then I've been eager to take to venues on my own. Overtime I've performed at weddings, holiday parks and now the pub circuit in the Reading area. As well as this, I've recently recorded some demos for Ellie Goulding herself, who is also a major inspiration of mine.
My main influences are really all soul based, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Adele and Aretha Franklin. There's alot of pop and soul in my set, however I do like to keep it low key to with more subtle material such as Pixie Lott, Ellie Goulding, Pink and Etta James. Musical Theatre has always been a huge influence my whole life, studying performing arts throughout Secondry school and at A-Level. I like to think I add a hint of this fun, cheesy style to my set. Eventually, with all the experience I've gained, I'd like to write my own songs and currently look to learn the guitar'
Jez Cooke is a much sought after session guitarist from Oxford. He is a devotee of the Django Reinhardt style having played with John Etheridge's Sweet Chorus with Dave Kelbie. He is equally at home with Electric Guitar playing the music of Wes Montgomery, John Scofield, Joe Pass, Tal Farlow and Mike Taylor.
A master of his instrument, he will weave in and out of chorises in a seamless fashion; switching from lead to rhythm easily. A must see for serious jazz enthusiasts and all rising students of the guitar be it finger-picking, thumb or plectrum style.
Johnathon OakleyJonathan Oakeley has been making music
for years, good for him, but unlucky for his parents (who were, as most
at that time were too obliged to put up with endless renditions of
awful grunge covers before their fledgling found his feet/buggered off
to uni). Following years of 'rock'/blues/emo-pop-punk/metal bands, youth
choirs, ambient-electronica projects, musical directorships and a
hearty slice of score-writing, what Jonathan Oakeley presents to you is a
window into the softer side of one of Reading's least-prolific
musicians.
A
singer/songwriter with a tendency to dwell on the three solid lyrical
foundations of (a) being dumped, (b) loose women and (c) suspect film
narratives, witnesses to a Jonathan Oakeley gig are usually treated to a
cornucopia of 80s covers, unwise witticisms and plaintive lyrics, all
swirled together with some enthusiastic (if not always technically
proficient) guitar-work. you are heartily encouraged to come and join in
the fun if ever you find yourself in the right area at the right time."

Hi, I'm a singer/songwriter from Reading just getting down my thoughts and feelings to music. You can catch me playing acoustic nights in and around Reading occasionally. I also have a more heavier project for when the demons take over from time to time, please see http://www.myspace.com/jonmatthewssound and/or www.myspace.com/nohawkers for further details.
No Hawkers is a side project of Jon Matthews formaly of the Waltz (www.myspace.com/thewaltzband). My concept is to take the lyrics and bit's of music I have written over the years and flesh out brand new tracks. You may also find some old classics that never made it to the setlists of the Waltz or my solo work (www.myspace.com/jonmatthewssound). So there you go, not sure how this is going to pan out or if I'll get a band together. I guess I'll see how the writing goes and we'll go from there. Cheers Jon
Josie WhiteJosie Louise White is an aspiring singer-songwriter, actress / model
from Berkshire. Josie has been singing since the age of five and songwriting since the age of nine but only recently picked up a guitar at the age of sixteen and since then has already written thirteen acoustic songs, three of which have been produced.
Josie is inspired by a wide range of artists, from Dr Hook to Rihanna, Shania Twain to Pixie Lott and Michael Buble to Beyonce. All these artists have helped Josie with a unique and fresh sound. As well as being an acoustic artist, Josie has a thriving passion for Musical Theatre and loves going to the West End to watch her favourite shows, including Les Miserable, Legally Blond the Musical, Wicked and many more! It is one of Josie's big dreams to be part of a West End production one day... or Broadway show! Josie won her first singing competition in 2007 when she sung and performed "Im not that girl" from Wicked.
Judy VaughanThe charismatic Judy Vaughan is a vocal talent who can
light up a stage. She flows with jazz and blues, her musical inspiration and experience coming from performing a wide range of musical genres such as Gospel, Blues,Jazz, Soul and Operetta. Judy’s first love is to perform live music; working with jazz and blues bands for some functions, performing in musical extravaganzas, musical theatre productions, pantomimes, choirs, and ensembles. Leading roles in productions of Raffles of Singapore, Showboat, Chicago, Hot Mikado and Stepping Out- The Musical brought huge but wonderful challenges of ‘music in character’.
Judy played the role of ‘Jellahay’ in the UK premiere of Raffles of Singapore last year, ‘Queenie’ in Showboat, ‘June’ in Chicago, ‘Pitti-Sing’ in Hot Mikado and ‘Rose’ in Stepping Out - The Musical.
The reviews Judy received for some of these shows were ‘… a powerful performance equal to many of the professional productions.’ ‘…. a lovely stage presence …’ and ‘This young lady had everything. I don’t think I have ever seen this part played better.’ It has been a busy time for Judy performing either as a solo artist or with a band for functions and special events around the country.
Juicy CometsAfter some years grazing various musical pastures, Juicy Comets found themselves in the same room about a year ago and are ready to share the results with the world! Juliet Gough’s single “Rays Around the Sun”, from her debut album of the same name, is released for the first time in Britain. The single stayed in massive rotation for almost a year on Danish national radio, and is now spearheading her forage into England where Juliet has family roots. The album “Rays Around the Sun” is produced by two seasoned veterans considered at the forefront of their respective genres in Denmark: gospel legend, Marie Carmen Koppel and the renowned blues organist Dan Hemmer. Together with Juliet’s spirited voice, the sound brings together the warmth of Midwestern Americana with the serene melancholy of the Scandinavian highlands, combining the exalted celebration of gospel with the soulful longing of blues. Juliet puts a twist on the singer/songwriter tradition, making music that’s easily accessible, catchy and could easily be mistaken for pop songs at first exposure, yet reveals astounding depth at repeated listening. The album is full of love songs that seem traditional at first sight, but for a handful of mysterious symbolic references that leaves you wondering whether the lover referenced throughout the album is indeed a human being - or some other entity, maybe celestial in nature.
After successfully promoting her album in Denmark Juliet returns to Britain where her family also has strong musical roots. Her great grandmother, Adelaine Rose, played piano for silent film, and her grandfather was an avid jazz musician. She has already played a series of intimate concerts in smaller venues to get a feel for and acclimatize her to the English audience, and is now getting ready to launch a full tour.

Rays around the sun: A classic singer songwriter production, it showcases Juliet’s pristine voice, contrasting its naïve timbre with her profound lyrics. The track is upbeat, energetic and has a classic, gritty rock sound accompanying Juliet on the melodic verses and a catchy hook that kept the single in heavy rotation for a year on Danish national radio! Yet in-depth listening reveal lyrical sentiments not usually found in mainstream pop: Not afraid to stand by her spirituality, Juliet openly sings about her yearning for humanity to transcend the veils of ignorance, let go of ego and “flow forever free” into the sweetest of mysteries. Exploring the liberating qualities of freedom and love, such lofty feelings doesn’t cause her to lose her grounding though – the text anchors solidly in the human experience, broken yet openhearted, and surprisingly never compromises the great melody and popular appeal.
Knight of the Wands is an ode to a lionhearted lonely rider, a long lost love who seems to pervade existence to such an extent that we can’t help but to question his nature. Musically it draws from a variety of sources, Juliet’s soft-spoken voice serenading in a southwestern drawl over an Indian composition of Tablas and a guitar filtered to match the twang of sitars. Sprinkled with delicate Fender Rhodes harmonics, it freely references The Beatles psychedelic period and convincingly takes the sound into the 21 century.
Sweet Angel-Blue Juliet’s Scandinavian influence shines through in the production with its detached and melancholic delivery, slightly introspective lyrics and pristine atmospherics reminiscent of vast open landscapes. Lyrically it explores the emotional and spiritual qualities of the element of water, as always with Juliet in the guise of a love song, although much more direct in its analogies than the other tracks with its mention of angels and praise. As such it continues the strong tradition of vivid and passionate poets of the Sufi tradition as Rumi and Hafiz, evident from the frequent metaphoric use of rain and the healing abilities ascribed to it.
"Vocalist Michael Williams channels emotional nadirs at every turn while musically the band emit sweeping melodic post-rock tempered with the accessibility of 'Telegraphs'-Inspired pop. Jumping Ships are the latest musical export to cause a storm"

Tom Robinson (BBC Introducing)
“Epic indie rock with the soaring quality of Oceansize minus the prog-ery, vocals strangely reminiscent of Ian Watkins and some fine riffage… Another fine band to make 2010 seem all the better!”
Subba-Cultcha.com
“The Jumping Ships are a Brighton based band that seems to be the next big thing in the south. On stage this young band delivers more energy then we have experienced in a long time and for that reason after seeing them perform at White Air Festival we were eager to speak to them”.
